I love building things. Things like art studios and truck pools.
While having lunch with a friend a few months ago, he mentioned an opportunity to build art studios in a beautiful warehouse. Though we never seem to have enough time, and money basically evaporates in our hands we decided to go for it.
So last month was a crash course in forming an LLC, talking to bankers, and planning what these studios will look like.
They are going to be top-notch, high ceilings, big windows, great lighting, and location.
This month (and the next) is building. It’s a challenge to squeeze in with a full-time job and two kids, but we are giving it a shot. I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of a well-packed car. (I’m writing this while waiting for the kids to finish their piano lessons). Anyway, I like to see the kids riding their bikes up and down the 10,000 square foot space. I cut hundreds of 2x4s while the kids build sculptures with hot glue and cutoffs.
We officially open Rectangle Studios in Bayview (Milwaukee) near Barnacle Bud’s on August 1st. If you want to be a part of Rectangle Studios reach out or say something in the comments. I’d love to build your dream studio with you or rent you one I’ve designed. My favorite ones measure about 24 x 21 ft, have two huge windows, and cost $570 with all utilities and internet included. There are smaller and larger sizes available as well.
For all you non-Milwaukee residents spaces like this can be hard to imagine. Milwaukee is magical in this way. Come visit- or just move here.
Truck pools. If you have a summer and a truck this is essential. Pre-kids, my vehicle of choice was an old unsafe pickup truck. I had many and the single-cab S-10 was my favorite. Not a great car for a family guy, and now we have kiddie pools.
The best part of an old truck, edging out driving slow while listening to thrift store country music tapes, is truck pool day. Use this drawing for your own boozy hot country day in the pool.
Hi Colin, Congratulations!
Live work?
The space looks amazing already, can't wait to see what it looks like. You and Milwaukee go well together, I want to move back!
